Various general health check ups for adults are available. These include specific check ups for cancer and tuberculosis.
If you become pregnant in Japan, 2 maternity health check ups are also available free, under the Mother and Child Health Care programme run by City Hall. Once your child is born you are also entitled to take advantage of the medical check ups available for young children. If you become pregnant please inform the Health Section of City Hall and ask for your ‘Mother and Child Health Handbook’.
NB. If you do not receive this handbook you will become ineligible to receive the free health checks and immunisations. It is imperative that you have the ‘Mother and Child Health Handbook’.

Vaccinations (予防接種 yobo seshu)
Chikuma City currently runs immunisation programmes for new-born infants and children until they are 7 and a half years old. If you have registered with City Hall and hold an Alien Registration Card you are entitled to have your child immunised as part of the city run vaccination programme. The vaccinations offered are DPT (Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus comb.), Measles, Rubella, Tetanus, Japanese Encephalitis, Polio and Tuberculosis (BCG). Please note that these vaccinations, with the exception of BCG can be given at City Hall up to the age of 7 years 6 months. The BCG can only be given up to the age of 4 years old. If your child misses this for any reason, it can also be given when he/she enters elementary school.
