Garbage Disposal (ごみ gomi)

Garbage in Chikuma is divided into different categories as set out in the table below. All garbage must be separated into these categories before being placed at the designated locations on the assigned garbage disposal days. Garbage MUST be disposed of correctly.

Burnable rubbish ごみ Kanengomi	Cooking wastes, paper wastes, unclean plastics	Two times a week	Separate biodegradable garbage from non-biodegradable garbage. Use the 「可燃ごみ専用袋」bags and be sure to attach the appropriate sticker.
Recyclable rubbish	Newspaper, magazines, cardboard	Third Sunday of each month	Separate the different kinds of paper before putting it out.
	Plastics other than PET bottles and plastic wrapping	Once a week	Wash if necessary. Place in the appropriate container at the collection point
	Jars/Bottles Cans (plus spray cans) PET Bottles	Twice a month	Wash and remove lid/cap. Place in the appropriate container at the collection point. Pierce spray cans. PET bottle labels must also be removed.
Other garbage ごみ Funen gomi	Glass, metal bottle caps, porcelain, light bulbs, small electrical appliances	Once a month	Purchase the designated bag 「不燃ごみ専用袋」 and use the appropriate sticker.
Hazardous goods ごみ Yuugai gomi	Batteries, thermometers, mirrors, fluorescent light bulbs	Once a month	Two bags a year are provided free of charge.
Hazardous goods ごみ Yuugai gomi	Neon rods	Once a month	Place in the appropriate container at the collection point, do not put it in a bag
Oversized rubbish ごみ Sodai gomi	Electric appliances, tyres, bicycles etc.	Four times a year	The fee for this service depends on the article being discarded.(Between 500 yen and 5000 yen)
